Arthur “Art” Faulkner, Marion High School Class of 1958, is a well-known and highly respected philanthropist and humanitarian in the Marion community, who retired as director of the food service department at Marion General Hospital, where he worked for nearly 40 years.
Faulkner worked for two years at Marion General Hospital to earn money to attend college. He then went on to graduate with distinction from Purdue University and returned to MGH. Working his way up, he ultimately earned the position of director of the food service department, and he served in that capacity for many years until his retirement in 2003.
Throughout his life, he has made helping others and serving his community a top priority. He served on the Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees for 12 years and was elected president of the Board three times. He has continued to be a strong supporter of Marion Community Schools, serving in various advisory capacities, including a member of the Parent Involvement Committee, counselor for the Black History Club.
Faulkner has also served on boards for many community organizations, including the Marion Senior Citizens Board and the city Zoning Board, Grant-Blackford Mental Health, Carey Services, and IWU’s MLK Committee. He’s also a longtime member of the Rotary Club, and chairman of the Rotary Foundation Committee, and has served as a deacon for St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for more than 45 years.
He is the recipient of many awards, including Indiana Dietary Managers Association Administrator of the Year; the Marion NAACP Community Service Award; the Fathering Award from the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence; IWU’s Tony Maidenberg Community Service Award; and many more.
