While in high school, Mr. Sutter participated in the Latin and Spanish clubs, Hi-Y Club, intramural basketball and orchestra. Mr. Sutter was the concert Master and played 1st violin. One of his mentors was Lloyd Dacosta Jones, his orchestra instructor. Mr. Sutter started a scholarship at IWU in Mr. Jones’ honor for students pursuing a career in music.
Mr. Sutter studied business at Indiana University and he operated the family dairy business, Sutter’s Dairy, in Marion until 1987.
He grew a convenience store business, Handy Andy Foods, into a multimillion-dollar operation.
He has served on several boards and commissions, including the YMCA Board of Directors, Boys Club Board of Directors, and Fidelity Federal Savings Bank. His leadership roles have ranged from President of the Marion Boys Club to Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce to President of the City’s Economic Development Commission.
He also served one term on the Grant County Council.
Mr. Sutter has been instrumental in the restoration of the Coliseum to house the new YMCA of Marion. He has also been a supporter of the Grant County Humane Society.
He is a humble and quiet philanthropist who continues to do his good deeds behind the scenes.
