Businessman, Grant County historian, author, founder of the Indiana Junior Historical Society, journalist, Indiana University graduate.
Mr. Simons’ work has inspired generations of teachers and students of history. Mr. Simons has been a longtime feature writer for the Indianapolis Star, and he has authored Railroads of Indiana and The Rivers of Indiana.
He also managed his family’s Marion business, Richard Clothing Co., for more than 30 years.
He has served on several local boards, such as Marion General Hospital and the Mississinewa Arts Council. He has also served as President of the Indiana Historical Society and has received national recognition from the American Association for State and Local History. He has been named a distinguished alumnus, Indiana University (1984), named Sagamore of the Wabash (1995), vice president of the National Railway Historical Society, and Indiana Historian (1996).
