Trent was born and raised in Marion and attended Clayton Brownlee Elementary, Jones Middle School, and Marion High School. He graduated from Vincennes University in 1990 with an associate’s in broadcasting and continued his education at Ball State University, graduating in 1992 with a bachelor’s in telecommunications.

While at BSU, he worked as an intern in the sports department at KTTV Fox 11 in Los Angeles, responsible for logging video highlights of Los Angeles Dodgers and California Angels baseball games for the nightly sports segment. In 1993 he accepted a master control/studio operations position with WSBT-TV in South Bend.

In 1996 he relocated to Los Angeles to accept a master control/technical operations position with Prime Sports/Fox Sports Net, executing live broadcasts games covering the Lakers, Dodgers, Clippers and LA Kings among other Southern California regional teams and events.
Trent also worked a total of 13 NBA seasons with NBA Entertainment Inc., beginning in 1996 as a video logger for the Clippers before transitioning to the Lakers and WNBA LA Sparks. In July 1998 he was named Fox Sports Net Employee of the Month. In 2000 he was promoted to technical operations supervisor. In September 2001 he was named Fox Sports Net Employee of the Month award for technical operations. The channels he supervised included Fox Sports West and West 2, World Espanol, Tennis Channel, Fuel TV, Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports International North and South Cone.

Trent is the technical director in master control operations with Spectrum SportsNet, the television network for the LA Lakers and LA Dodgers. Coverage also includes Sparks, Big West Conference basketball, CIF state tournament, Surf, University of Hawaii athletics and high school athletics for the Hawaii region.
