Induction Year: 2022

Carol Secttor

Honorary inductee

Carol Secttor, honorary inductee, was a longtime teacher and administrator at Marion Community Schools who helped put Marion on the map for progress and an innovative curriculum.

She served as a middle school social studies teacher starting in 1968, and moved into the MCS Curriculum Department in 1975 as an assistant. In 1982 she took the lead for the department as Director of Curriculum and Instruction, a role in which she served through 2002.

She went on to serve as a consultant for curriculum, grants, and school improvement for the Indiana Department of Education and for various schools through 2011.

Carol was instrumental in Marion being recognized throughout the U.S. for innovation. But beyond her accomplishments as an educator and educational leader, she has been an ardent supporter of Marion Community Schools and a dedicated community advocate.

She has spent countless hours supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Marion, for which she has served on the board of directors for more than a decade, including chairing the organization’s 50th-anniversary dinner.

She mentors Marion students and is a champion for any program that encourages equality for all students.

She has also served on the board of directors for Kiwanis of Grant County, including serving as president; for Family Service Society Inc.; and for P.E.O., an organization that supports educational opportunities for women, including serving as secretary, treasurer, and vice president. She has co-chaired the Committee to Support Family Recovery Court, and the United Way’s annual fund drive. She served as the secretary of the board of managers for the Country Lake Estates Homeowners Association for 15 years.

She received an Outstanding Woman in Education award from the Network of Women in Business, and she has been named a Community Champion by the City of Marion.

You can find her supporting Marion Community Schools in any way that she can, and her work and advocacy have had an immensely positive impact on our community.

She holds a bachelor of science degree from Ball State University (1968); a master’s degree in education from Ball State University (1972); and a license in Secondary
Administration and Supervision from Ball State University (1981).
