Reco Price, better known by his stage name Supernatural (a.k.a. Super Nat or MC Supernatural), was born in Marion and began rhyming when he was 14. After graduating from MHS in 1989, he moved to New York City at the age of 19 and began to make a name for himself on the hip hop scene. In 1993, he gained attention at the New Music Seminar showcase, one of the most influential music business conferences in the world. In 1994, he landed a radio show on KissFM, where he met KRS-One, a pioneer rapper and activist, who became not only his friend but his business manager. Supernatural became best known for his freestyle showmanship and battle rap abilities and has been a regular performer and host of the Rock the Bells Music Festival in San Bernardino, Calif., since it began in 2004. It was at that festival in 2006 when he broke the world record for longest continuous freestyle rap, rhyming for 9 hours and 15 minutes, helping to solidify his status as one of the greatest freestylers ever. His story and performances — including some of his epic battles — are featured in the 2000 documentary Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme. In addition to several recordings of his own that have garnered worldwide acclaim, he has been featured on recordings by Public Enemy, will.i.am, and Grandmaster Flash. His single Internationally Known appears on the soundtrack of the 2003 video game Tony Hawk’s Underground. His recorded albums include Natural Disasters, recorded in 1994 and released in 2000; The Lost Freestyle Files, a compilation of previously recorded tracks released in 2003; and S.P.I.T. (Spiritual Poetry Ignites Thought) in 2005. Supernatural has been blowing audiences away for decades with his on-stage magnetism and has earned a special place in hip hop history as one of the most gifted emcees ever, with electrifying delivery and deft wordplay.
